The mission of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church Charitable Foundation, Incorporated is to enhance the lives of people in the local and global community by giving financial aid and assistance to programs that promote positive life changes with an emphasis on at-risk youth, the needy, and the elderly. The foundation has three areas of focus – education, economic development, and social services.
The foundation was established in May 2007 under the auspices of the Rev. Charles T. Smith, pastor. The foundation was the result of funds received from the sale of Cedarwood Apartments that had been donated to Shiloh Baptist Church by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The non-profit status was proposed for the foundation and a 501(c)(3) tax exempt status was granted to the foundation by the Internal Revenue Service.
The sole purpose of the foundation is to further charitable giving to promote educational, social and economic improvement within the community of Greater Baton Rouge. Special emphasis will be directed towards the underprivileged. The foundation is governed by a board comprised of members of Shiloh Baptist Church in good financial standing and an excellent record of service to the church and community. Board members serve a specified length of time and the rotate off. The chairman of the board is elected annually.
