SATURDAY

It’s news I’m most proud to proclaim, this extraordinary Message of God’s powerful plan to rescue everyone who trusts Him, starting with Jews and then right on to everyone else! God’s way of putting people right shows up in the acts of faith, confirming what Scripture has said all along: “The person in right standing before God by trusting Him really lives.”—Romans 1:16, 17 (MSG)

The Gospel is “God’s powerful plan to rescue everyone who trusts Him.” Liberation theology views rescue not as an escape from the world but as God’s determination to transform it. Paul is not ashamed of the Gospel because it reveals a God who refuses to accept oppression or bless injustice and refuses to leave the vulnerable to fend for themselves. The Gospel is God’s announcement that another world is possible—and breaking in.

Faith is not passive belief. Faith is a lived commitment to God’s liberating work. It is trust in a God who sides with the poor, lifts the bowed down, and tears down the walls that divide. Faith is the courage to stand where Jesus stands—among the marginalized, the overlooked, the exploited, and the weary. Faith is real when it moves from private conviction to public witness.

God’s righteousness “shows up in the acts of faith.” It becomes visible when we embody it. When we speak up for those who have no voice, when we challenge systems that crush the weak, when we refuse to normalize what God calls sinful—then the Gospel becomes kinetic. It moves. It breathes. It disrupts. It heals.

Liberation theology reminds us that faith is always personal but never private. It calls us to examine not only our hearts but also the world around us. Who is being left out? Who is being pushed down? Who is carrying burdens they did not create? Faith that does not ask these questions is not yet committed faith. Faith that does not focus on the suffering is not yet Christlike faith.

Obedience to this Gospel will not always be comfortable. It may cost us relationships, reputation, or security. It may place us in tension with the powers that be. But obedience also places us squarely in the company of Jesus—the One who proclaimed good news to the poor, freedom to the oppressed, and sight to the blind. The One who overturned tables when worship became exploitation and refused to be silent in the face of injustice.

And there is reward. Not the reward of ease, but the reward of knowing that God is with us in the struggle. The reward is seeing glimpses of the Kingdom breaking through. The reward is participating in God’s work in the world.

Prayer: Lord, as we go today, help us to not only talk about faith, but live by a committed faith in You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. AMEN!
