SUMMARY:Baton Rouge General (BRG) is hosting a WELL BEYOND 50 SCREENING
DESCRIPTION:USE CODE: BRGVIP to get discount on registration!\nLINK TO REGISTER: http://ral.org/wellbeyond \nhttp://ral.org/wellbeyondBATON ROUGE\, La. – Baton Rouge General (BRG) is hosting “Well Beyond 50\,” a screening and wellness event for ages 50 and up\, on Saturday\, July 30 from 7:30-10 a.m. at its Mid City campus. Screenings can help determine a person’s risk for heart disease\, cancer\, diabetes and other issues that can impact them as they age. \n“The concept of ‘wellness’ has changed a lot over the years\, and most of us have seen changes in our health\, too\,” said Dr. Ubaid Abbasi\, a family medicine physician. “Even if you were healthy in your younger days\, you could have an underlying issue starting to creep up now\, and the first step in staying healthy is knowing where you stand.” \nAt “Well Beyond 50\,” attendees will have several opportunities to check in on their health. Following the screenings\, attendees will have a one-on-one consultation with a BRG provider to discuss their results. Screenings and tests available at the event include: \n\nBlood pressure with Baton Rouge General Physicians\nCholesterol and Glucose with Baton Rouge General Physicians\nGrip strength and balance assessment with BRG Therapy\nPosture assessments with BRG’s Bone Health Center\nHearing tests with The Emerge Center\nSleep assessments with BRG Sleep Services\n\nOnce a person hits 50 years of age\, they are more at risk for many conditions and issues\, from osteoporosis to high blood pressure (two out of three adults over 60 have high blood pressure). More than nine in 10 older adults have some type of chronic disease\, and almost eight in 10 have more than one. With cancer\, for example\, age is the biggest risk factor. The disease affects young people\, too\, but the odds of having it more than double between ages 45 and 54. \nRegistration at brgeneral.org/wellbeyond is required\, and the cost is $10. The event will take place inside Entrance 4 at the Mid City campus\, at 3401 North Blvd.
